As a primary contact for Safeway customers, the produce clerk provides friendly, courteous, and helpful service. Follows Produce Manager/ Produce Head Clerk directions for implementation of the of merchandising program. Receives produce deliveries. Changes signs and prices for weekly or special ads. Inventories floor stock and cooler stock daily writes produce order as requested. Checks order for completeness upon arrival. Maintains cold chain compliances as required by the company policy. Builds and maintains produce displays and rotates stock as needed. Prepares product for placement on sales floor by trimming, washing, banding, or wrapping produce. Replenishes bag rolls in the display aisles as needed. Takes produce from receiving area and moves to the produce department using hand truck or pallet jack. Culls product to maintain Best In Class (BIC) appearance. Surplus items may be placed in crisping trays for storage in cooler. Cleans scales, tables, mirrors, department floor area, wet and dry racks. Performs floor sweeps per division guidelines. Must empty wet racks and dry racks on a regular basis and clean with disinfectant. The position is hourly non-exempt. The Produce Clerk reports to the Produce Manager, Produce Head Clerk, Field Merchandiser, Store Manager, 1st and 2nd Assistant Manager and Person In Charge.
